Hosted by Lipsy Lost and Found, my Wednesday post gives you a taste of what I’m reading this week. A similar meme is run by Taking on a World of Words.
LAST BOOK I FINISHED READING

On a locked ward in the world’s highest-security prison hospital for the criminally insane, a nurse has been murdered and her newborn baby kidnapped. A ransom must be paid, and the clock is ticking.
Forensic profiler Dr Connie Woolwine is renowned for her ability to get inside the mind of a murderer. Now she must go deep undercover among the most deranged and dangerous men on earth, and use her unique skills to find the baby – before it’s too late.
She has five days to catch the killer.
But with the walls of The Institution closing in on her, will her sanity last that long?
[Loved this one. If you missed it, you can find my review here.]
THE BOOK I’M CURRENTLY READING

Marky Bishop is dying. That’s why they’ve given him a compassionate early release, only where can a career criminal like him go to spend his final months?
From the outside, Glenfarach looks like a quaint, sleepy, snow-dusted village, nestled deep in the heart of Cairngorms National Park, but things aren’t what they seem. The place is thick with security cameras, and there’s a strict nine o’clock curfew, because Glenfarach is the last safe haven for people who’ve served their sentences but can’t be safely released into the general population.
For Detective Constable Edward Reekie, this was supposed to be a simple delivery job – drive his new boss up to HMP Grampian and collect Marky Bishop, take him to Glenfarach, then head back home again. Nothing dangerous or complicated.
So how could it all go so horribly wrong?
The weather’s closing in, tensions are mounting, and time’s running out – something nasty has come to Glenfarach, and Edward is standing right in its way…
[About 100 pages into it and I must admit I’m struggling, despite the beginning being the end and having to figure out how we got there. Also, not a locked room mystery but a locked/isolated village type thing. Which is kind of the same thing? I can’t seem to get away from this sub-genre! 🤦🏼♀️]
WHAT I’M (PROBABLY) READING NEXT

It’s the year 2035 and fiction has been banned by the government for five years. Writing novels is a crime. Reading fairytales to children is punishable by law.
Fern Dostoy is a criminal. Officially, she has retrained in a new job outside of the arts but she still scrawls in a secret notepad in an effort to capture what her life has become: her work on a banned phone line, reading bedtime stories to sleep-starved children; Hunter, the young boy who calls her and has captured her heart; and the dreaded visits from government officials.
But as Fern begins to learn more about Hunter, doubts begin to surface. What are they both hiding? And who can be trusted?
[One of my most anticipated books of the year and I can’t wait to dive in. Also really hope this is NOT a locked room mystery! 😂]
Have you read any of these or would you like to? What are you reading this week? Whatever it is, I hope it brings you lots of enjoyment. Happy reading! xx
Snap on the next read!! 🙌🙌

Do you think The Dead of Winter can be read as a standalone? I loved the one I read last year and wanted to read more of his books. I almost can’t believe I’m saying this but I see so many locked room/isolated places too and too much is never a good thing so I do hope your next read will be different!

The Dead of Winter is a stand-alone so yes, definitely!
I agree with you about it being too much and I am really going to have to read the book blurbs first. I do enjoy them but come on. How did everyone decide to tackle the same thing?! 🤷🏼♀️😂
