And that’s a wrap for January

I honestly don’t understand how people are saying January lasts an eternity. I feel like I only had people over for Christmas last week and yet, here we are in February (since I’m posting this update late, as per usual).

I was going to do a whole thing about last year but really, that all seems a bit water under the bridge now. It was a stressful year for various reasons and it most definitely had an impact on my reading. I struggled to reach my Goodreads challenge goal, even after setting it lower twice, and I had one of the worst reading years I’ve ever had. I contemplated quitting the blog numerous times but I’m still here, the blog has been paid for for another year and I guess we’ll see what happens after that.

Seems it’s been a while since you’ve had a Millie update so here she is. I tried to do one of those fancy photoshoots at Christmas but yes …. as you can see, she was totally into it 🙄😂.

We’ve been trying to do daily walks around the neighbourhood. Every day a little further and a little longer. It’s still a huge struggle but she’s making progress and that’s all that matters. Who knew a few months ago I’d be able to take a picture like the one on the right?!

We really do see a change in her from week to week. She’s a lot more playful lately. Still not quite what you’d expect from a puppy but we’ll take it.

She’s also sometimes a bit less distant than she used to be. In the picture on the left, she’s keeping me company when I was feeling super poorly from the booster shot. Normally she’d stay on her end of the sofa. Despite the fact that about five minutes after taking this picture she kicked me off the sofa, I still prefer her cuddling up to me like this.

So yes, she’s now 1 year and 2 months old and she’s been with us for 10 months. It hasn’t been the easiest of rides so far but hopefully all the baby steps and love and time will continue to make a difference. I would obviously have preferred things to go a lot smoother and I do get frustrated that she’s not like “normal puppies” but she’s still the bestest dog and we can’t imagine not having her here.

On to the books. Yes, I’m reading. Slowly and still way less than I used to but I’ll take it!

WHAT I READ IN JANUARY

A real mix there. Some mediocre, some incredibly disappointing, some pretty darn enjoyable.

BOOK OF THE MONTH

Absolute no brainer! This was SO GOOD! My review will be up next week.

WHAT I BOUGHT IN JANUARY

Already read two of these so they don’t count, right? As for the other two, I was swayed by the covers. 💁🏼‍♀️

RECEIVED FOR REVIEW

And that’s it for January. Friends and family members are testing positive like mad lately so I’m just staying nicely wrapped up in my own wee bubble with Millie. Stay safe and happy reading! xx

Millie looks adorable! I didn’t have the best reading year last year either but I’m glad we are both still around blogging 🙂 I was a bit hit or miss on that as well last year.

I’m going to go get the new Lisa Gardner book as I keep hearing good things!

    Have a lovely weekend x

I hope we will both have a better reading year this year, Jules! And that you enjoy the Lisa Gardner because I thought it was most excellent. xx

Yebbut, normal puppies just need normal people whereas Millie needs special people, so you were destined to be together! She’s looking beautiful… 😀

We had the same book of the month for January! Awesome. Love Millie’s coat. Is that considered brindle? I am really looking forward to reading “The Undiscovered Deaths of Grace McGill” but it will have to wait because I’ve got quite a few review commitments and tours looming.

I had to look up the word “brindle” so thank you for that because I love learning new words! Yes, I do think it’s called brindle and it’s apparently incredibly unpopular. Dogs with an even coloured coat are adopted (or sold) much faster.

I saw that about Lisa Gardner being your book of the month too. I actually thought I’d commented on that too but I must have dreamt that. So sorry about that.
