And another month bites the dust. As seems to be the norm lately, I have no idea where this one went or what I did. I just know it was all over in the blink of an eye.
We are still under some kind of lockdown although the specifics escape me because I stopped paying attention a while ago now. Some will be lifted at the weekend, which I personally think it’s too soon but nobody’s asking me. All this past year or so has taught me is that I really am the most antisocial person I know. 😂
Anyway, I know you’re all just here for the Millie updates so here goes.

We went ahead and called in the help of a puppy trainer because Millie remains extremely frightened of just about everything. Unfortunately, that also includes humans that are not the other half or myself. So the puppy trainer has been at our house twice now but Millie refuses to come out of hiding when she’s here. It’s such a shame because nobody but us has had the opportunity to see what a fabulous dog she really is.
Although we probably should have called her Tilly. Tilly, The Terror. I’ve lost count of the amount of pillows we’ve bought her the past month but only one has survived so far. There are teeth marks in various bits of furniture. And one book. We can’t leave anything on the coffee table or she sticks her nose in, sinks her teeth into it, runs away with it …. Outside in the garden, same thing. Bird feathers, bird poop, leaves, twigs, earth, whatever … apparently it’s all haute cuisine 🙄. And she likes to dig near our fence. We suspect it’s because our neighbours have chickens and she’d quite like to get her paws on them.
I admit I often lose patience. I can’t wrap my head around the fact that she knows exactly where I keep her snacks but after a bajillion times of telling she will still put her paws on the dining room table. Or coffee table. Or try to hump my leg. Or dig earth out of my plant pots. Or shove her big nose in my cup of tea. Or bite my toes when I’m walking around in my socks. The list is endless. 🤣
She’s lucky she’s cute. Especially when she’s asleep 😉.
Right, for those who care, books!
| BOOKS I READ IN APRIL |
I guess that was to be expected but still … I had a serious talk with Self and we are determined to do better! This is just too embarrassing for words. Three 5 star reads in that lot, though. Really can’t complain. Feel free to guess. As always, there are no prizes.
| BOOKS I BOUGHT IN APRIL |
I’ve already read two of those so there’s no real damage done to the TBR. Who am I even trying to kid here?
| RECEIVED FOR REVIEW |
With thanks to Vintage and Michael Joseph! I fell so behind on reviewing review copies. I feel horrible. I really need to try and make a dent in that pile.
| ON THE BLOG IN APRIL |
Review | You Love Me by Caroline Kepnes
Review | This Is How We Are Human by Louise Beech
Review | Geiger by Gustaf Skördeman
Extract | Don’t Turn Around by Jessica Barry
Spotlight | The Girls from Alexandria by Carol Cooper
I’m totally blaming Millie for the lack of posts 😏.
| COMING UP IN MAY |
May 4th : Blog tour | Teaser | The Crazy Season by Jim Ody
May 6th : Blog tour | Review | The Last Act of Adam Campbell by Andy Jones
May 24th : Blog tour | Review | Talk Bookish To Me by Kate Bromley
I’m hoping to read and review a few more books this month but you know, famous last words and all that.
And that’s a wrap! Hope you’re all safe and well. Have a great month and lots of happy reading. Until next time! xx
I love the Millie update, and the bookish one too.. I come here for both now. It seems like she’s having the time of her life. Fingers crossed she can’t get to the chickens. If it can help, in my experience a ‘Fatboy’ pillow is one of the sturdier dog pillows because it’s a special fabric, not like the other ones.

I had a look at those just now. We have one that resembles it, which is incidentally also the only one that survives until now. She doesn’t even try to sink her teeth into that one. The other ones all have zippers and it seems she really hates zippers 😂.
Glad you’re enjoying both updates, Inge. Hopefully the bookish ones will start to get a bit more interesting from now on though. 😳

Enjoying both updates (with Millie slightly in the lead 😉 ) She is lovely and I hope her fear will lessen over time. In case this helps, you can sign up for free emails with dog training tips from Pippa Mattison or maybe just get info from her website.

Love Millie updates. She made me smile and laugh. I bet my daughter would love her. She is as naughty and also looks super cute, especially when asleep.😀 I can’t wait to see what you think about The Lost Words of Dictionary.

Thank you SO much for the Millie update💜 FYI, I got soup bones from he market and they were so succulent and tasty my dog stopped chewing on everything else. And, they last forever.
Now, on to books! You read some great ones this month, Eva. I’m off to check out that Jessica Barry book.

We want more photos of Millie! And yeah, I also think it’s way to soon to lift certain measures, as our population hasn’t actually been the following kind lately 😅

Awww, Millie is sweet and I feel your pain. I hope she gets over her fear enough to let the puppy trainer show you some tricks. Not a bad reading month. Enjoy your new purchases and ARCs.

Aww, she’s gorgeous! And I quite agree that all animals are much sweeter when they’re asleep… 😂

Loved the Millie update! She might be a handful right now, but who can resist such a cute puppy face?! ❤ I hope she will be less afraid of other people soon… And that the fence is sturdy enough so no chickens will be harmed in the near future. 😉
