2020. A year of sheer madness that will undoubtedly end up in the history books for all the wrong reasons. For me personally, little changed. Thank goodness I don’t live in America and I feel like I’ve been practicing for this hermit life since I was born. And yet, somehow my reading was severely impacted. I didn’t read as much as I did in previous years, nor did I even feel like reading most of the time. As the end of the year drew closer and closer, I revised my Goodreads challenge and as things currently stand I still failed to achieve the goal I set. First time that’s happened since I started joining that particular challenge. I’m disappointed, with myself, but it is what it is.
That means though, that the books on this list are extra special. The ones that pulled me in from the start; the ones that were able to hold my attention until the very last word; the ones that, for a few hours at least, made me forget everything around me. The ones that provided the perfect escapism and made 2020 that little bit better!

| And Novel Deelight’s Book of the Year award goes to ….. |

I knew it from the moment I finished it that We Begin At The End would be my book of the year. I never reviewed because I couldn’t put into words how fabulous this novel is and I still can’t. Trust me though, when I say, that Chris Whitaker is an extraordinarily talented writer and he undoubtedly deserves a spot on your shelves! I have a feeling you’ll be seeing this book a lot of end-of-year-lists.
And there you have it. My favourite books of the year. Have you read any of them? Would you like to? Which books made your list? Thoughts? Suggestions? Criticism? Let me know in the comments!
A massive thank you to authors and publishers everywhere! Thank you to YOU, my lovely fellow bloggers and readers for your enthusiasm, your support, your comments and for sharing the book love. It’s been a tough year all around but thank goodness for books and our wee community. We made it and let’s hope 2021 treats us all far, far better! ❤️
I also enjoyed The Night Swim and Sun Down Motel

I’m behind on my GR challenge, as well as reviews. I’ll probably end up not reviewing quite a few. Here’s to a safer and happier 2021 😘

I haven’t read as many books as last year either which is strange because I didn’t pick up any other hobby. I have several of your list I still want to read (The Nothing Man, Little Secrets, All The Lonely People) and I’m going to read Home Before Dark as one of my next books so good to know you loved it so much. The only one I read is I Am Dust and I remember loving it very much as well. Now I feel guilty for not putting it on my list! Have a great new year Eva!

Ah, I’d been wondering who tempted me to add The Sundown Motel to my wishlist – so it was your fault, eh? Glad you found lots of good stuff even during this horrible year. Here’s to 2021 – Happy New Year! 😀

I never reviewed it so I’m pretty sure it wasn’t me but since it’s now on your wishlist I’ll gladly take responsibility for it anyway. 😏
Wishing you all the very best for the new year! (Even though you’re back in that lockdown stage again; things will get better!) Thanks for all the laughter in 2020! It helped. A lot. 😘

Chris topped so many lists that people were getting bored with seeing his name and book everywhere, I think 😂. But it was so deserved.Hope you find the time soon so you can see why we all loved it so much!
Happy 2021! 😘

I definitely need to read Chris Whittaker. I loved the Night Swim. It was so much deeper than I thought it would be. Thanks for sharing this list hence all the recommendations. May 2021 be good to all of us ❤

Couldn’t agree more about The Night Swim. I didn’t see that depth coming at all. Everyone needs to need Chris Whitaker!
