As 2020 draws to an end, it’s time to look back on a year where books seem to have been more important than ever. Today, I’m putting the focus on my favourite series of the year. Each and every one of these is outstanding!
Karin Slaughter – Will Trent

No list is complete without Karin Slaughter!
M.W. Craven – The Curator

Featuring one of the best pairings out there in crime land!
Eva Bjørg Ægisdottir – A Creak on the Stairs

I’ve included this one because it felt like it was the first in a series but I could be wrong. Anypoodle, Icelandic noir doesn’t come much more atmospheric than this!
Will Dean – Tuva Moodyson

Third book in the Tuva Moodyson series and another hit for Will Dean!
Thomas Enger & Jørn Lier Horst – Blix and Ramm
A new Scandi-Noir favourite!
Matt Wesolowski – Six Stories
Six Stories still going incredibly strong!
Jane Casey – The Cutting Place

I got through the entire Maeve Kerrigan series this year and absolutely loved every single book!
Bella Ellis – Brontë Mysteries

I do love me some historical crime fiction and the Brontë Mysteries are such a treat.
Richard Osman – Thursday Murder Club

Truly delightful from start to finish. I can’t wait to hang out with the Thursday murder club again!
Helen Fields – DI Luc Callanach

The “Perfect” series has always been able to stand out from the crowd but this latest addition is really something else altogether.
Cara Hunter – DI Adam Fawley

I’ve loved this series from the very beginning and I don’t see that changing any time soon!
Steph Broadribb – Lori Anderson

If there is one thing I should have learned from reading the Lori Anderson series, it’s to have an oxygen tank at the ready because her adventures always leave me gasping for breath and Deep Dark Night is no different!
John Grisham – Jake Brigance

Grisham has been incredibly hit and miss for me the last couple of years but this one reminded me of the good days.
Angela Marsons – DI Kim Stone
Thirteen books in and the Kim Stone series remains as gripping as ever!
Michael Wood – DCI Matilda Darke
I don’t know why but it feels to me as if this is a series that seems to fly just that little bit under the radar and it isn’t talked about enough and it really should be!

And there you have it. The series that made 2020 a little better. Have you read any of these? Did I miss your favourite series? If so, give it a shout-out in the comments!
I’ll be back with my books of the year. At some point. Maybe tomorrow. Maybe next week. Who knows? I can’t seem to be able to actually finish the list. 😳
Hope you’ve all had a wonderful Christmas! Until next time. xx
Faffing about and not finishing my Best of 2020 list has actually turned out for the best: I finished The Curator last night (I was planning on reading a chapter or 2 before bed and I ended up finishing the book) and it so has to be on the list!

Awesome book, isn’t it? And this is exactly why I normally read older books in December. 😄

Great series here. I just finished the 13th Marsons novel and love that series.
I’d really like to read the Jane Casey series.
I loved “The Creak on the Stairs”.
Happy New Year🎉🥂📚

Glad to hear you’re still enjoying the Kim Stone series too! If you have the time, you should definitely read Jane Casey’s Maeve Kerrigan series. Maeve is a fantastic character!
Happy New Year to you and yours, Lynn! xx

Excellent choices, Eva💜 I see some of my favorites on here (Will Trent, DI Kim Stone, DI Adam Fawley) and a couple I added because of you (Blix and Ramm, Six Stories). Now to check out some of those I don’t have.

So how many murders are included in that little lot? My guess would be somewhere between thirty and fifty…
How did I miss that new Grisham? Now on the wishlist – thanks a lot! 😉

I wasn’t aware I was supposed to count them. My bad. Seems like a nice guesstimate. 🤷🏼♀️
My pleasure entirely! No, really, you have NO idea! 🤣

Ohh so many good ones here! I loved my first experience with Will Trent and can’t wait to catch up in 2021… And I also loved Washington Poe, Six Stories, The Creak On The Stairs, Tuva Moodyson, Alexander Blix & Emma Ramm, Lori Anderson… Eddie Flynn would be high on my list too!

Eddie Flynn might unfortunately be a series I’ll be dropping. Thirteen was fantastic. But the other ones I’ve read didn’t quite work for me.

Oh no! Fifty Fifty didn’t work for you either? The first books weren’t as strong as Thirteen for me either, but I loved book five.

Before I even read this post I knew Slaughter and Marsons would be on it! I still need to read a few of their books. I love the Perfect series and also the Washing Poe one. I do need to catch up with the Six Stories series I really enjoyed the first one. Great list xx

Are you calling me predictable, Yvonne?! 😱😂
Odds are they’ll be on this year’s list too, just so you know. 🤣

Great List! I have the new Grisham sitting on my TBR. Seeing it on this list has made me push it up my reading list. I am yet to read Angela Marson but that is definitely 1 series I feel like I need to be following. I hope 2021 will bring you more brilliant series or more fab books in these series.

Apologies for the late reply, Diana. I seem to have missed this comment.
You should definitely catch up on the Kim Stone series. I think you’d really like it!

Great post. I am working my way through Angela Marsons’ series. I love Karin Slaughter and have read them all. There are a few on here that I am going to check out. I don’t read a lot of Icelandic or Scandanavian noir, but it sounds like I should.

I find the Scandi-Noir books a bit harder to get into sometimes but few do “atmosphere” as well as the authors in that genre do.
