August Wrap-Up

I’m running out of words to describe this year. The world has gone to pot and people suck. That about sums it up.

So, anyway, it’s September. What the actual … fudge?! Considering everything that’s been going on the last few months, I honestly don’t understand how this year can be flying by the way it is. That said, September will be a long month for me. The other half will be home until the 29th. We’re on day two and he’s already in my way ALL OF THE TIME and driving me bonkers! Ugh. 🙄🤣

As things stand, we will be leaving for Italy on Friday. I’m slightly worried about the road trip but I also can’t wait to get there. Two weeks in the (hopefully) glorious sunshine, away from these four walls and with spotty wifi that will keep me away from the news. Sounds pretty perfect. Also because August has turned surprisingly autumnal and I’m not prepared for that season to hit me just yet!

Right! On to the books. Hm.

| BOOKS I READ IN AUGUST |

Twelve isn’t exactly impressive for someone who used to read at least double that each month but it is what it is. Some disappointing ones on that list too. Hopefully September will be better!

Surprisingly though, I DID manage to nail the 20 Books of Summer challenge. I read quite a few more than 20 books since the beginning of June but the review writing was letting me down. My list is completely unrecognisable from the one I posted originally, though.

| BOOKS I BOUGHT IN AUGUST |

Hm. I have a feeling there are a few missing from this list but since I failed to write them down, they don’t count, right? 😏

| ON THE BLOG IN AUGUST |

Review | The Shadow Friend by Alex North
Review | The Night Swim by Megan Goldin
Review | Ash Mountain by Helen Fitzgerald
Review | Katheryn Howard : The Tainted Queen by Alison Weir
Review | Cover Your Tracks by Claire Askew
Review | Eight Detectives by Alex Pavesi
Review | The Octopus by Tess Little
Review | The Nothing Man by Catherine Ryan Howard
Review | The Quickening by Rhiannon Ward

Extract | Her Husband’s Grave by P.L. Kane
Extract | Son of Escobar
Extract | Cracked by Louise McCreesh

Still not really impressive but the lack of blogging and reviewing mojo hasn’t been a big secret this summer. Again, it is what it is. 🤷🏼‍♀️

| ON THE BLOG IN SEPTEMBER |

Erm, well, nothing much. Apart from this :

September 21st : Blog tour | The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman

And that is a wrap for August! I don’t know how much I’ll be around until late September but my guess is : not a lot. 😂

Hope this month treats you all well. Stay safe and healthy! Until next time! xx

So far, yes. We might have changed our minds if we’d been offered a refund but we haven’t so there’s that. xx

I’m with you, I don’t know how this year has gone by so quickly given the state of things. Hope you’re able to relax and enjoy your holiday (and the weather is kind) I’m looking forward to a week away myself in September, nowhere exotic though. Self catering and hopefully not many people around! Then with any luck we’ll be moving house 🏠 😁

Have a great holiday!! Several of the books you read are on my list but that probably means I’ll read them next year around this time :-).

I hope you have a good time in Italy. I’ve spotted a few books here that I need to read. What did you think of the new Jane Casey?

It’s such a strange year and that has an impact on our reading and blogging, I guess. Nice holidays!

Enjoy your holiday. Our borders here in New Zealand are still closed, so we can’t go anywhere. ❤😍📚☕🍪
