I don’t often join challenges but this one caught my eye last year on Cleopatra Loves Books and I really like the thought of being able to catch up on my overflowing TBR in this way.
20 Books of Summer is a yearly challenge by Cathy at Cathy746 with an aim to read twenty books over the summer months starting on 1 June 2018 and running until 3 September 2018 and I’ve decided to join in.
Now, because I’m crazy and only decided this rather last minute, these 20 books will actually be read on top of the ones I’ve already committed myself to for blog tours. That’s the plan anyway. I hear you laughing. That’s okay. I’m laughing too. 😂
So, here are the 20 books on my list for now. I’ve spotted a few that seem rather long so I may need to switch those for something shorter. We’ll see.
In no particular order, here we go. With links to Goodreads for your convenience.
1. Rachel Rhys – Fatal Inheritance – [review]
2. Sarah Pinborough – Cross Her Heart – [review]
3. Cara Hunter – Close to Home – [review]
4. Riley Sager – Last Time I Lied – [review]
5. J.D. Barker – The Fifth to Die – [review]
6. Fredrick Backman – Us Against You – [review]
7. Sibel Hodge – Into the Darkness – [review]
8. Claire Douglas – Do Not Disturb – [review]
9. Shari Lapena – An Unwanted Guest – [review]
10. Louise Candlish – Our House – [review]
11. Steve Cavanagh – The Defence – [review]
12. Liz Nugent – Skin Deep – [review]
13. Amanda Jennings – The Cliff House – [review]
14. Michael Wood – The Hangman’s Hold – [review]
15. Celeste Ng – Little Fires Everywhere – [review]
16. Andrew Wilson – A Different Kind of Evil – [review]
17. Karin Slaughter – Pieces of Her – [review]
18. Ruth Ware – The Death of Mrs Westaway – [review]
19. Elly Griffiths – The Zig Zag Girl – [review]
20. Linwood Barclay – A Noise Downstairs – [review]
That’s it. What do you think? Would you consider giving this challenge a go? What do you think of my choices? Will I make it or fail miserably? And on a scale of 1 to 10, how crazy do you think I am now? 😂
Wish me luck! xx
I think you’re crazy, but that is a fantastic selection of books! And I have Little Fires Everywhere so I’m totally up for budding read that one!

Should probably have mentioned that question was totally rhetorical to anyone called Janel 😉
Buddy read! Yay! Let me know when you think you can do it!

Yeah but I’d have still answered it anyway!
You’re the one with blog tours galore, you let me know!

There are quite a few of your books that I am desperate to get to as well. This challenge would be great for me in that respect but no way could I fit in 20 of ‘my own’ books as well as all the blog tour commitments. Good luck!!

You can also do 10 or 15 and the rules are really barely there. That’s why I like it. I don’t at all think I’ll get to 20 but the way the challenge is set up, I know I won’t feel bad if I don’t.

I could do the 3 books of Summer then 😀

I’m sure many people won’t consider that a challenge but I know the ridiculous schedules we have 😂

I’m going to join in and just have to decide if I’m doing 20 or 10 books and whether they’ll be my books or ones I’ve been sent. Maybe they should be a mix hmm
LikeLiked by 1 person
Mine is a mix. One I was sent, a few Netgalley ones I’m hoping to get to for publication day and the rest are my own. Some of which I’ve had for over a year 🙄

That’s a good idea.. I did it last year and only read 7 of my 20 as I went off my list nearly as soon as I posted it!

Sounds like me when I post my “This week in books” 🤣

Well, crazy or not (the jury’s out on this one), you’ve got some great books on this list. I’ve read a few, and have quite a few others. I really like the look of the challenge too, but I can’t do it this year – maybe next time…
Good luck! x

Good luck, Eva!
I’m going to try and do it again this year as well. I failed miserably in 2016 so I didn’t do it last year. But we’ll see. I’m going to try and do all 20 from my own shelves that aren’t ARCs … Just trying to pick them now. Will be a challenge for sure! I keep telling my self it’s only one extra book to read a week how hard can it be 😂 We’ll see! xx

Right? When you say it like that, it’s nothing really! I could have read two in the time I spent compiling the list in the first place 😂

Not sure. Tempted.

Great selection. I’m planning to join in for the first time as well and currently finalizing my list. But I’m going to make it easy for myself and include some books I’ve got to read anyway for blog tours. The rest will include some from other reading challenges where progress is, shall we say, a little slow…

Ah, yes, those slow-going challenges. That’s a great idea!
I am trying to get ahead of blog tours this week to give myself time to tackle my list. I don’t know, including the tours felt a bit like cheating since I’m reading those anyway. Didn’t quite feel like a challenge. My brain is an odd place. 😄

Well, I did think of only including books in my list that had a summer theme to make it slightly more challenging but I soon gave that one up! I’ve got my self-imposed blog tour break in June (well, almost a complete break) so I’m hoping to tackle a lot of my TBR pile. But I just know I’ll probably end up signing up for lots of blog tours in July and be back at square one!

I have another two disastrous blog tour months coming up. Only six in August so far and desperately hoping to keep it that way. Bloody emails tempting me with the shiny books. 😉

Yes, I had to resort to reading only the date and if it said June I deleted it without looking at the rest.

I think your totally crazy, but that’s one of your best qualities! 😉
So excited to see The Defence on there!! I also loved Little Fires Everywhere and Eleanor…
I am working on my list. For me it’s really like making a TBR list for the next three months. I usually only read 5-6 books a month so this will be a challenge!
Good luck, you can do it!!

So glad to hear you’re joining in too! Can’t wait to see your list!

I did the challenge last year and it was fun…but it was a bit crazy! I was able to do it, but I wasn’t able to get all 20 reviewed. I’m thinking of doing the challenge again since I have so many books to read, lol. You have so many good books on there…I have four of those to read as well: Cross Her Heart, The Fifth to Die, The Last Time I Lied, and Our House. Little Fires Everywhere is one of my favorite books, and I hope you enjoy it! Good luck with the challenge!

Reviewing them shouldn’t be a problem. It’s finding a gap in my schedule to actually post them, that’s the issue 🤣
You should totally join in again! It’ll be fun and we encourage each other! xx

Oh my! I hope you can find a spot for them all then, lol. I probably will join in since I’m on summer vacation from teaching and have more time to read but I’ll have to take my chances that I might not get to review all 20 again since I’m about to take a 2 week break the end of June to go on a beach holiday with my family. I managed to read 18 books so far this month and am hoping to squeeze one more in before the 31st, LOL), so reading 20 will be no problem between now and Aug though (unless my kids drive me insane once they are out of school next week, ah!)
I can throw all the ARCS that I have between now and the end of Aug to read on to my list and have my 20, hahaha…those will definitely get reviewed! But I have so many other books on my TBR that I’m dying to read though, lol. Wow, I’m officially banning myself from NetGalley…
It will be fun! Encouragement is good!Off to see what I want to read this summer! 🙂 xxx

Good luck, I think I might be crazier because I’m not counting my blog tour review books, so I’m going to have a lot to fit in, but it’ll be good for us to get through our TBR ☺️

Great choices, quite a few there that I have glaring at me from the shelves! Good luck, I would love to this but know that I will be doomed to failure! 😉

Good luck! I am very tempted to do it myself to clear down the old TBR mountain but on top of the blog tours I’ve promised I’m back at work from maternity leave on 18th June… Still thinking about it – not leaving myself much time!

If it helps at all, you can also do 5 or 10. Although I do understand those first few weeks back at work will need some adjusting to. xx
