The weather is up and down like a bloody yo-yo which annoys me no end. Today promises to be a scorcher though! Today is also my 18th wedding anniversary, which I’m spending with … my in-laws. Thank goodness there will be lots of wine!
Also, when we moved here, we were the last house in a dead-end street next to a massive corn field. The field was sold and now has houses on it. So we went from having no neighbours, to having six in one go. Goodbye peace and quiet. To make matters worse, two of those neighbours have now removed a whole row of trees which means there isn’t a single spot in my garden where I can go sit down and relax to enjoy the sunshine and actually have some privacy. Totally ruined my week, let me tell you.
Anyway! The fact that the Alison Weir book is almost 600 pages long, means I’ve only read 6 books this week. For shame. 😉

Question of the week (please don’t think this will be a regular thing, I’m not that imaginative!) : Do you change your book genre preference for the (hopefully) hot Summer days? For instance, if you’re a crime fiction addict, do you now leave those aside and read only the lighter and fluffier stories that come with those cutsie covers? Do you pay attention to Summer and beach reads?

Novel Deelights 
Come winter, autumn, spring or summer, I read crime fiction! I see a lot of people reading more chick-lit in the summer but there’s so many sub genres within crime fiction, I’ve got plenty of variety. All though I do read the odd book from another genre every now and again 😊
And sorry to hear about your neighbours, that must suck. Maybe you should start a book club with them haha 😂

I read from an another genre from time to time all year long but don’t make a conscious decision to do it more often during Summer months. Glad to hear I’m not alone!

In my garden,I have one of them swings with a tilting sun cover. I lay on there reading and hiding from the world 😉
My neighbours are annoying also via way of letting their dog just bark for hours. 😠

Ooh, I like that idea! May need to look into that! And yes, barking dogs for hours on end is very annoying too! I always make sure mine doesn’t but not everyone cares.

Wow, six books in one week and one that was 600pages is amazing. I have no idea how u managed that I struggled on three, I have a Corner thing in my garden you could say its like a sofa that I love to sit on with a massive cushion its so relaxing.

My garden is about 3meter square and completely open to the neighbours with no fencing. You can guarantee if I go sit outside to read at least one neighbour will come along and join me for a chat. Drives me nuts!

Happy anniversary! Did you know you could meet Karin Slaughter this week cos she’s visiting Belgium?! I’m already looking forward to your review of The Good Daughter but can’t imagine she ever writes anything that I won’t like ;-). I might be a bit inclined to read something a little lighter when it’s really warm and sunny but it won’t last all that long either, but then neither does the weather here so I have no idea if it’s related :-). Good luck with your busy schedule next week !!

Congratulations to you both on your anniversary although commiserations on the neighbours 😦 I read the same genres all year round although I do include a few more summery reads at this time of year – not that we usually have much of a summer in the UK! 🙂

Yes! completely. I didn’t even realise that I did this, I read the heavy crime in winter and fluffy chick lit in summer, I have no idea why. I suppose it’s good to hop through different genres. I read biographies in any season. Well done on the very busy week of reading.

A lot of people seem to do it so you’re not alone! I never even really knew it was a thing. I just read what I feel like and if that means taking a Stephen King book or something to the beach, then so be it 😄

Congrats on your anniversary! Sorry to hear you lost your trees I would be totally disappointed by that as well. I like Janel’s idea of you starting a book club with your new neighbors though:) In the summer I do add some lighter reads into my tbr, especially Elin Hilderbrand which I just got her new one so I’m excited about that

I’ve heard of Elin Hilderbrand but I’m not sure I’ve read a book by her. May go check that out.

And to answer your question: I read mystery/thrillers all year long, although I do tend to pick up even more of them during the cold winter months (and horror! I normally save that genre for the cold weather). It’s actually almost winter here so you will be seeing even more crime than usual coming up haha.

Crime all year round, although I prefer them either less gritty or set somewhere hot over the summer.

Shame about the trees! No, I don’t change my reading for seasons much, except that I tend to stop reading horror stories over summer – somehow light nights and ghosties don’t go together! But crime goes on all year round… 😉

I don’t really change my preferred genres in the summer. Year round I like to alternate my favorite crime thrillers with women’s fiction, historical fiction &/or literary fiction. That being said, I like to read books that are set in the summer IN the summer AND I like to read books set in the winter IN the winter. I know…. I’m strange. I might write a blog post about my seasonal preferences.
Don’t know how you do so many blog tours. I have made a conscious decision to NOT do any blog tours over the summer. The deadlines are just not comfortable for me in a season when I’m outdoors so much and company could pop in at any time.

Oh yes, me too! There’s something really weird about reading a Winter story in Summer. That just makes no sense to me at all. And like you, I switch genres all year around and don’t really pay attention to the seasons.
As for the blog tours, I have actually turned some down. But I need to do a bit better. Sometimes the pressure of having to read before a certain date gets a bit too much.

In response to your question, I’m a crime/thriller girl at heart but every now and again I switch things up and throw a fantasy or romance book into the mix, although that could happen at any time.
