Happy Sunday! Hope everyone’s enjoying their weekend! Welcome to my stop on the blog tour for He Made Me by Oliver Tidy, the second book in the Booker and Cash series.
Author : Oliver Tidy
Pages : 246
Publisher : Bloodhound Books
Publication date : June 16, 2017
David Booker and Jo Cash are experiencing similar stuttering starts to their new lives on Romney Marsh when Rebecca Swaine turns up seeking help. Someone is demanding a lot of money from her husband. She wants to know who and why.
People come undone and reputations are ruined and made before the meaning of a man’s dying words – he made me – can be guessed at.
Mrs Swaine might end up wishing she’d let sleeping lies lie.
He Made Me is the second instalment in the Booker and Cash series and while I think it can be read as a stand-alone, which I did, I also feel that reading book one first may have added a bit more to my experience.
David Booker and Jo Cash are starting new lives on Romney Marsh. Booker has opened a coffee shop and Jo is trying to kickstart a new career as a private investigator. Then Rebecca Swaine turns up. She thinks someone is blackmailing her husband and wants to know why. Open big fat can of worms!
I felt He Made Me was a bit slow at times but never, ever boring. It made me think of an old black and white noir movie with the most fabulous narrator. The relationship between Booker and Cash was realistic and believable. I really enjoyed the banter and humour between them. Although this was also where I felt I had missed out on something by not reading the first book and not quite understanding the history between them.
There was an interesting plot that kept me hooked, with a few twists and turns and I couldn’t guess at the outcome. Despite Rebecca Swaine’s stiff upper lip, I couldn’t help but sympathise with her when events started to unfold.
At 246 pages, this was another quick read for me and I’m glad I was able to get through it in one sitting. All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable read!
Many thanks to Sarah Hardy and Bloodhound Books for my advanced copy and for having me on the tour!
He Made Me will be published on June 16th.
